mitcHel forman Pianist ~ Composer About Me Born in Brooklyn, NY, Mitchel began playing piano at age 7. After graduating from the Manhattan School of Music, Mitchel began touring with some of the giants of jazz, such as Gerry Mulligan, Stan Getz, John McLaughlin and Wayne Shorter. He also was a top NY session musician on piano and keyboards for many years. He has recorded 14 CDs as a leader and played on countless others as a co-leader and sideman, including Gerry Mulligan's Grammy winning Walk on the Water and Lyle Mays' Grammy winning Eberhard. A partial list of his recorded work can be found here. His jazz compositions have been recorded by Pat Metheny, Gary Burton, and many others. Mitchel has also scored two films and written numerous TV commercials. His new album BAKED! — Live at the Baked Potato — featuring Brandon Fields, Walt Fowler, Chad Wackerman, Jimmy Earl, Lenny Castro, Luis Conte and Gary Novak — releases Fall 2026. Currently Mitchel performs frequently with his band in the Los Angeles area.
