Solo Piano
Recorded in 1998
This record is full of heart, one can hear Mitch’s heart through his fingers on the keys. That’s the only way I know to describe this musical experience. Get the record, you won’t be disappointed. (amazon.com)
Harvest Song is a real change-of-pace for keyboardist Mitchel Forman, who is usually heard in funky fusion or electronic postbop settings. This time around, Forman performs 15 quiet and wistful unaccompanied piano solos. He varies the tempo here and there but most of the music is laidback and thoughtful. Throughout, Forman shows that he excels in this rare-for-him format and the results are successful as both background music or (if played at a louder volume) as introverted lyrical jazz. — Scott Yanow
